Taking Stock: December

Happy December!  You may (or may not? Hah!) have noticed that I'm doing my Taking Stock: December post super duper early --- there are still 10 days of the month left!

Well, my friends, I'm going to be doing a FULL YEAR Taking Stock post at the end of this month, which will, of course, include any important events from the end of this month. (What, is there, like, an important holiday happening or something? :-P)

The thing that's been most present this month, to be honest, is the production of A Christmas Carol that I've been fortunate enough to be a part of. The show itself has been awesome, and the people involved have been a total dream to work with. I'm truly, truly going to miss this group when our show closes this week. <3
My awesome cast <3

As you can see, acting is very glamorous.

Another super fun thing I got to do this December was go my friend Lindsey's Harry Potter themed Christmas party!  The tree was decorated with tiny versions of each of the books, itty bitty golden snitches, and topped with a witch's hat instead of a star.  I was only able to go for a short time between shows, but I had a blast!

This December was also a pretty awesome one for the Savage household --- WE GOT OUR TREE EARLY!!!  And by "early" I do mean "before December 23rd" because that has honestly been our timeline prior to this year.  It's not on purpose, but with Christmas shows and general holiday busyness, the tree is usually a last-minute scramble for us and I've always hated that.  (It may have taken us an entire week before we actually got any DECORATIONS on the tree, but hey! It was cut and up and in our living room so I still consider it a win!)

And probably one of the most exciting things we did this December was to have our Christmas card photoshoot!  We've never done a special family photoshoot before this, but ever since we got our wedding photos, I've just wanted to keep the professional photo tradition alive, so my friend April, of Alba Lumos Photography, did a shoot with us and it was AMAZING. Not only did she get wonderful shots of us in our Christmas-colors, but we also had a bit of a trick up our sleeves.  Jess had begged for us to get family cat onesies and use those in our photoshoot, and when your 12-year-old asks you to do something as hilarious and ridiculous as that, you do it, gosh darnit!

Overall we've had a pretty exciting December so far and I'm excited to see what the rest of it (and the upcoming new year!) will bring.  Now onto our usual questions...

Making: plans for the new year, of course!
Cooking: a casserole tonight maybe?  There's a chicken and mashed potatoes one that I'm totally craving right now!
Drinking: WATER, which is weird...
Reading: Still working on The Accidental Creative by Todd Henry.  I've been slowly making my way through it, but I haven't had as much reading time as usual this month, unsurprisingly, so I'm not quite done yet.
Wanting: to take approximately 600 naps.
Looking: forward to A Christmas Carol final performances this week! (Weird that last month my answer to this was that the show was opening!  Time flies, y'all!)
Playing: The Retire Inspired podcast because I'm nerding out, as per usual.
Wasting: no time trying to get our final Christmas cards out!  Most of them have been sent, but I still have a few to get in the mail and I'm running out of time! Eek!
Sewing: ................................ still nothing. (again.)

Wishing: I could give Jess everything in the world.
Enjoying: our lit-up Christmas tree!  One of my favorite things in the whole world is relaxing in the light of a Christmas tree, so I've really been enjoying the extra time with it in our home this season.
Waiting: for a nice, three day weekend!
Liking: this hamper, which maybe sounds super lame but this thing has CHANGED our laundry game!  We keep it at the top of our stairs and throw all of our white towels/sheets/etc. into it so they're ready to be thrown into the laundry with bleach every Saturday.  It has convenient handles and it CLOSES so none of your laundry is visible!  LOVE THIS THING.
Wondering: how Christmas is going to go.  I get a bit stressed out around holiday time (don't we all, really) so I'm excited but a bit anxious for everything to go well!
Loving: my husband even more than usual this month. I have been a bit all over the place and he really has been an absolute rock for our family.
Hoping: for a fun and wonderful and low-stress Christmas celebration!
Marveling: at how much I've grown and changed in the last year. I've been looking back extra lately (like ya do around New Years) and it's really pretty cool.
Needing: another coffee before the day is up!
Smelling: the crispness in the air!  Winter is OFFICIALLY here in New England, my friends!
Wearing: a colorful dress, a comfy hoodie, my black leggings, fuzzy socks, and cute winter boots! #NewEnglandFashion
Following: through with my goals, even when it's hard! <-- still true ;)
Noticing: how beautiful and quiet the world is when it snows.
Knowing: that I am so incredibly blessed.
Thinking: of all of the books I want to read!  SO MANY YOU GUYS!!!

Bookmarking: ...A lot of books?  That's not technically bookmarking, but you get the idea!
Opening: so many gorgeous and fun Christmas cards this week!  They warm my heart so much - I'm a total "Christmas Card person" for sure!
Feeling: Warm. Anxious. Hopeful. <3
